Frequently Asked Questions
Everything about how BuildThis scores and selects ideas.
Q1How is the Recommended / Worth Watching / Skip rating determined?
Recommended (🟢): Large market, meaningful competition gap, technically buildable by a solo developer, clear monetization path. Worth Watching (🟡): Genuine opportunity but with notable risks or requirements that need validation first. Skip (🔴): Too competitive, shrinking market, or the moat is too hard to build. May work as a lead-generation tool but not as a primary product.
Q2Are the 5-axis scores objective data?
No. They are informed judgments based on publicly available data (search volume, competitor pricing, market research) combined with editorial experience. Your background, network, and existing skills will shift the numbers.
Q3The idea already has competitors. Is it still worth building?
Almost every viable market has competition — that's evidence the problem is real. The question is whether there's a differentiated angle. We analyze this specifically in the Competitive Landscape section of each detail page.
Q4How accurate are the MVP time estimates?
Estimates assume a competent full-stack developer using modern AI coding tools. Add 2–3x if you're learning the stack. MVP time covers only core functionality — not SEO, marketing, or polish.
Q5Where does the market evidence data come from?
Search volume from Google Trends and Ahrefs estimates. Competitor intelligence from public pricing pages, Product Hunt, and direct research. Community signals are real quotes from Reddit, Hacker News, and Twitter/X.
Q6How often is new content published?
We aim to publish new ideas every weekday as we analyze DECISION.md reports from our research pipeline.
Q7Are there affiliate relationships or paid placements?
None. All recommendations are independently produced. We may add non-intrusive advertising in the future, but it will never influence which ideas are recommended or their scores.
